Unusual artists. Unusual artists and unusual paintings. The shortsighted world of Philip Barlow

When a person for some reason does not want to rely on traditional methods of creating paintings in his work, experiments begin. When he is not satisfied with “realism” in his work, when the works of Leonardo and Boucher seem boring and uninteresting, a new look at art is born. When for him a game with the past turns into a way to look into the future, another art appears. True, sometimes such aspirations cross the border, turning into something far from art, and then the main thing is to surprise with originality.

So, unusual artists, unusual ways of creating paintings and unusual paintings.

I will not speak about artistic value. Each of the listed authors calls himself an artist, creator. Each of the viewers will determine for themselves what is art and what is not, as well as that face, beyond which there is no shocking, but it is not clear what.

Red Hong

An author who conquered me with an unusual look at the most ordinary objects or not quite objects. For her, creativity is not limited to paints and brushes, because it’s much more interesting to give free rein to imagination and let it flow into something interesting and alive. A fantasy is such a thing that it can lead to the idea of using a coffee cup or a basketball ball instead of a brush, or you can do without socks at all.
“When I first visited Shanghai, I stumbled upon an old alley where bamboo sticks protruded from the windows of houses. It was an incredibly beautiful sight! An amazing thing is such traditions in a modern bustling metropolis. It inspired me to create something unusual from the usual for everyone things in your home district "

Carne griffiths

But what if, together with the usual paints, we use unusual ones? No, not magical, but quite normal to almost paints, especially if you drop them on a white dress. What if I use tea or brandy as paint, or maybe whiskey or vodka? And the result will be airy, without black spots, full of light lines of work, attracting a strangely attractive symbiosis of human and natural.

Vinicius Quesada

As they say - Blood is life ?: Then the artist Vinicius Quesada put life in his work in the literal sense, because he paints with his own blood. The paintings are strangely attractive with their shades of red.

Jordan Eagles

The works of this artist, using the same blood, though not his own, but taken at the slaughterhouse, amaze even more. Jordan Eagles creates something frighteningly attractive, especially when you know what and how he creates his work. Using different techniques, he turns the blood itself into an object of art.

Jordan Mackenzie

Jordan Mackenzie, who also creates fluid from the human body, went even further. For his work, he uses canvas, hands and his ... member. Everything is surprisingly simple - a splash of sperm on the canvas, a little technical processing and the picture is ready. Such creativity is a pleasure and you don’t need the sickening smell of blood, drawing brushes or even a cup of coffee.

Millie Brown

Millie Brown also spews liquids out of herself, but they are no longer of a completely natural origin.

Elisabetta Rogai

But Elisabetta Rogai (Elisabetta Rogai) creates his work from exquisite material - white and red wine. This, it would seem, should limit its color palette, but this does not interfere with her work at all.

Judith Braun

Writing a picture without hands will be problematic, but what if the hands themselves become a brush and create. What happens if the fingers become a tool, and ordinary coal dust blossoms with a variety of shapes and forms? And the works of the artist Judith Brown will come out, which in a strange way combine abstract and concrete images.

Doug Landis

And you can draw without hands, like Doug Landis (Doug Landis). After he was paralyzed, he began to draw with a pencil in his mouth! And it remains only to envy his strength of mind.

Tim Patch

Meet Tim Patch, aka Prickasso, aka penis artist. Why a penisist? And because he draws it to them.

Ani Kay

Another person believes that he can create a work of art without using traditional brushes or pencils, and he does not need hands. He is also a supporter of the idea that drawing hands is boring. Ani Kay decided to draw with his tongue.

Natalie Irish

Kiss, as it turns out we do not know much about him. After all, you can create a kiss by investing in your created love. Actually, this is what the artist Natalie Irish is doing - she paints with kisses and lipstick.

Kira Ayn Varszegi

Hands can, a penis can, lips can, and than a breast is not an instrument, Kira Ein Varzedzhi thought and began to create. She paints with her breasts, but being limited by the shape of the breast herself, she creates abstract images, in contrast to the same Patch that even portraits can be created. But Kira has everything ahead! Good luck in this difficult field of art.

Stephen Murmer.

Stephen Murmer, who paints his buttocks, is not far behind them.

I smeared the fifth point with paint, sat on the canvas and you're done! And if something is missing, then you can follow the example of the same Patch. And you can even draw immediately both. As they say - cheap and cheerful, although I got excited about cheap - these pictures have a considerable price.

Martin von Ostrowski

“An artist has the right to use materials with a particle of the author in order to show or prove that he is part of the organic world. My genes are stored in semen, which play an important role in reproducing a human being along with a female egg. And in my feces there are microorganisms that live in symbiosis with digested food. So the artist is part of a large complex of innumerable organic worlds, and in order not to get lost in it, he must leave a tangible mark on the art being created. ”

And in the end, you can draw yourself

or famous personalities

or such portraits using sperm to create.

P / S / he also has less “amazing” jobs.

Chris Ofili

It is possible and not so original. Instead of human use, animal excreta can also be used. Here you will like the color of the elephant's selection and take it, use it, no one will say a word across. Moreover, it gives such scope in choosing shades of brown. On what actually Chris Ofili was led.

Mark Quinn

You can draw human blood, but you can also make sculptures from it. Frozen. Yes, and from his own. One such portrait takes about 4 liters of blood, if not more.

Val Thompson

But you can draw not only with blood and all kinds of secretions. You can draw by the person himself, more precisely by what is left of him after death. Ashes, for example, like Val Thompson does. Artificial diamonds were already made from the ashes, now you can still draw, all you need is to mix it with paints.

Xiang Chen

You can draw it all, the main thing is that your eyes are not afraid, but your hands do. But sometimes the eye itself, in the literal sense of the word, becomes an instrument for the creator. Artist Xiang Chen paints with his eyes using a special device.

To be continued...

To draw with a knife, chewing gum, tape, nails or fishing hooks, words and ribbons, bacteria ... there is no barrier to human imagination.

There are works of art that seem to hit the viewer on the head, dumbfounding and amazing. Others are drawn into thought and in search of semantic layers, secret symbols. Some paintings are fanned with secrets and mystical riddles, while others are surprisingly exorbitant.

We carefully looked through all the major achievements in world painting and selected from them two dozen of the strangest paintings. Salvador Dali, whose work fully falls under the format of this material and is the first to come to mind, was not intentionally included in this collection.

It is clear that “strangeness” is a rather subjective concept and each has its own amazing paintings that stand out from a number of other works of art. We will be glad if you share them in the comments and tell us a little about them.

Scream

Edward Munch 1893, oil on cardboard, tempera, pastel.
National Gallery, Oslo.

"Scream" is considered a landmark event of expressionism and one of the most famous paintings in the world.

There are two interpretations of the depicted: it is the hero himself is seized with horror and silently screams, clutching his hands to his ears; or the hero covers his ears from the cry of peace and nature around him. Munch wrote four versions of The Scream, and there is a version that this picture is the result of manic-depressive psychosis, from which the artist suffered. After a course of treatment at the clinic, Munch did not return to work on the canvas.

“I walked along the path with two friends. The sun was setting - suddenly the sky turned blood red, I paused, exhausted, and leaned on the fence - I looked at the blood and flames over the bluish-black fjord and the city. My friends went further, and I stood trembling with excitement, feeling an endless cry piercing nature, ”said Edward Munch about the history of the painting.

"Where did we come from?" Who are we? Where are we going?"

Paul Gauguin. 1897-1898, oil on canvas.
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

At the direction of Gauguin himself, the picture should be read from right to left - the three main groups of figures illustrate the questions posed in the title.

Three women with a child represent the beginning of life; the middle group symbolizes the daily existence of maturity; in the final group, according to the artist’s plan, “an old woman approaching death seems to be reconciled and indulging in thought,” at her feet “a strange white bird ... represents the futility of words."

The deeply philosophical picture of the post-impressionist Paul Gauguin was painted by him in Tahiti, where he fled from Paris. At the end of his work, he even wanted to commit suicide: "I believe that this painting surpasses all my previous ones and that I will never create something better or even similar." He lived another five years, and it happened.

"Guernica"

Pablo Picasso. 1937, oil on canvas.
Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid.

“Guernica” presents scenes of death, violence, atrocity, suffering and helplessness, without indicating their immediate causes, but they are obvious. It is said that in 1940, Pablo Picasso was summoned to the Gestapo in Paris. It immediately came to the picture. “Did you do this?” - “No, you did it.”

The huge canvas-fresco "Guernica", painted by Picasso in 1937, tells about the raid of the Luftwaffe volunteer unit on the city of Guernica, as a result of which the six thousandth city was completely destroyed. The painting was written in just a month - the first days of work on the painting, Picasso worked for 10-12 hours, and already in the first sketches you could see the main idea. This is one of the best illustrations of the nightmare of fascism, as well as human cruelty and grief.

“Portrait of the Arnolfini couple”

Jan van Eyck. 1434, wood, oil.
London National Gallery, London.

The famous painting is completely filled with symbols, allegories and various references - up to the signature “Jan van Eyck was here”, which turned the picture not just into a work of art, but into a historical document confirming the reality of the event at which the artist was present.

The portrait of presumably Giovanni di Nikolao Arnolfini and his wife is one of the most complex works of the Western school of painting of the Northern Renaissance.

In Russia, over the past few years, the picture has gained great popularity due to the portrait similarity of Arnolfini with Vladimir Putin.

"The demon is sitting"

Mikhail Vrubel. 1890, oil on canvas.
State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow.

“Hands resist him”

Bill Stoneham 1972.

This work, of course, cannot be considered masterpieces of world painting, but the fact that it is strange is a fact.

Around the picture with a boy, a doll and palms pressed to the glass, legends go. From "because of this picture they die" to "children on it alive." The picture looks really creepy, which causes a lot of fears and speculations in people with a weak psyche.

The artist assured that the picture depicts him himself at the age of five, that the door is a representation of the dividing line between the real world and the dream world, and the doll is a guide that can lead the boy through this world. Hands represent alternative lives or opportunities.

The painting gained fame in February 2000, when it was put up for sale on eBay with a background telling us that the painting was “haunted”. “Hands resist him” was bought by Kim Smith for $ 1025, who was then simply inundated with letters with eerie stories and demands to burn the picture.

Man is constantly drawn to creativity. People have painted since prehistoric times, depicting on the rocks figures of animals and gods. Today we have the opportunity to admire the paintings of the most talented artists that civilization has generated.

Some of them skillfully conveys the play of light or water, someone pays attention to details, and someone else's paintings just give mood. But people seek and find the opportunity to create paintings not only with a brush. In the world there are many amazing artists who use unusual techniques in their work.

The man who writes with the penis. The Australian Tim Patch has his brush always at hand. Indeed, in this capacity is his penis. The artist himself jokingly calls Pricasso. There is no doubt that such a pseudonym the great artist would approve, because Picasso adored shocking experiments. To design the background of the picture, Prikasso uses his ass. After all, drawing with the main tool would take quite a lot of time. Pictures painted by the penis are constantly appearing at various sex exhibitions. Moreover, the artist himself visually shows visitors how he creates his paintings. The funny thing is that the canvases come out really good, given the unusual tool for creating them.

Vomiting artist. Artist Millie Brown creates what some people boldly call art. A woman drinks milk-colored milk, and then spills liquid back onto a white canvas or even her dress. She mastered the art of regurgitation, thanks to which she learned how to use the muscles to push out the contents of her stomach. This talent allows Brown to create pieces of contemporary art. It would seem that here is complicated? Drink, yes spew liquid onto the canvas. Meanwhile, Brown's abstract canvases cost thousands of dollars. The most famous painting, "Nexis Vomitus" was created in the acoustic accompaniment of two opera singers. This painting costs $ 2,400 and it’s easy to find videos of creating the canvas on the Internet. Only now, viewing this painting technique can in itself cause unpleasant urges.

Drawing a basketball. Chinese woman Hong Yu decided to create a portrait of her idol, basketball player Yao Ming. He recently ended his stellar career at Houston Rockets. But what is the best way to draw a basketball player? Of course, the ball! The girl loves drawing, but chooses unusual objects to embody her talent. This time, a basketball was her hand. She dipped it in paint and left marks on the canvas. Gradually, the image of the famous player appeared on paper. A video about such an unusual technique received more than 400 thousand views on YouTube. The artist herself was born and raised in Borneo, lived in Australia and the Netherlands, and now lives in Shanghai.

Human blood as a paint. Vinicius Quesada lives in Brazil. He calls himself a personal artist. Quesada loves to shock with his paintings. He created an unusual series called The Blood Written Blues. Unusually, these paintings are painted with human blood and urine. In the apocalyptic paintings of the Brazilian, one can see powerful geishas smoking monkey cigarettes and other unusual images. For his paintings, Quesada uses three colors - red, yellow and blue. Most of the pictures are precisely red, but the artist’s own blood is used for it. True, he can allocate for this only about 450 milliliters every 2 months. Quesada fundamentally does not use foreign blood, not wanting to harm anyone.

Underwater art. A whole group of Ukrainian artists create their paintings under water. To do this, they dive with scuba gear into the waters of the Black Sea. There they have about 40 minutes for creative work. During this time, they manage to put paints on canvas in very difficult conditions. As a result, the pictures are almost the same as those painted in natural conditions. True, creative divers cover their canvases with waterproof glue before starting drawing. Artists work at depths from 2 to 20 meters. They say that light in the water scatters and falls on stones and corals. As a result, the underwater world looks so beautiful that it inspires creativity. The human eye is better able to catch this beauty than the camera. But artists need to consider that colors are lost with depth. So the brown color applied under water to the canvas can turn red on the surface.

Breast drawing. American artist Kira Ain Varzedzhi paints her paintings with a size of 38DD. The technique in this case is not as original as the tool itself. Kira just dipping her breasts in oil beauty, and then presses it to the canvas. In the process of drawing, this is repeated over and over again, different color combinations are simply used. Drawing continues until the artist likes her work. Kira claims that the secret of the popularity of her paintings lies in a special mix of colors. True, it is nevertheless necessary to thank the nature that gave such a gorgeous chest. The artist says that the goal of her work is the emotions of her viewers, as well as bringing living spaces into a beautiful view. And such pictures invariably cause a smile in people. To achieve such goals, Kira learned to use various tools - from a variety of brushes to toys, vegetables and various parts of the body. Those who find these paintings funny are worth telling that Kira is a recognized artist. Most of her work is sold on eBay, where each work is valued at hundreds of dollars. Kira claims that her paintings have spread around the world. In every American state, you can find such unusually created work.

Tongue painter. They say that artists should suffer for their art. As a result, they are forced to dress in dirty linen, and eating at all is unclear what. But all the martyrs were surpassed by Ani Kay. The fact is that he paints his paintings in his own language. The consequence of this is concomitant persistent headaches, cramps and nausea. When Ani decided to paint in an unusual way, he first chose his nose as an instrument. But it turned out that this method has already been tested by other artists. The first attempts to use the tongue turned into serious pains in the head and body due to acute fumes from the paint. This painting teacher was already able to create 20 watercolor paintings. His pride was a canvas width of 2.5 meters, copying the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. Work on this picture took 5 months. The artist builds a gallery in his house, located in Indian Kerala. The body is already accustomed to an unusual technique, now work on the painting takes about 4 days.

Dead ants drawing. For the painting "Portrait with a Gun" artist Chris Truman used an unusual environment. The author created his work with the help of dead ants. He immediately needed 200 thousand of these hard-working insects. As a result, a brown-colored picture appeared, showing Truman's little brother with a rifle in his hands. Oddly enough, but the artist said that his work is the fruit of love. It was such a contradictory feeling that he experienced, killing the ants necessary for the picture. For the sake of art, Truman had to do what he hated. The painting as a result became not only an object of painting, but also the embodiment of the genocide of ants. Its owner will undoubtedly stand out in modern society. And the estimated cost of the painting is 35 thousand dollars.

An artist using his own eyes. This strange method was mastered by Xiang Chen from the Chinese province of Hunan. This artist and artist of calligraphy learned to hold long, meter brushes under his eyelid. It was there that he introduced the metal end of the drawing tool. As a result, he writes and draws with his eye. Chen revealed his unusual abilities when he was 16 years old. One day he came home from a construction site and found that both of his eyes were clogged with sand. But he himself did not feel any pain or discomfort from this. Chen tried to poke into his eye, but all he felt was a slight itch. A Chinese man uses his eyes not only for drawing, but also for playing the piano. Interestingly, doctors say that his organs of vision are no different from ordinary ones.

Artist painting with human ashes. Many artists use their friends or family members to create their paintings. But only a few use loved ones as material for their paintings. Ethical canons literally blew Val Thompson. She mixes the ash left after the cremation of people with paints. Thus, her unusual ingredient adds texture to the canvas. These unique paintings allowed the artist to make a good career. And he suggested that her brother engage in such creativity. The first picture of Val was created for Anna Kiri, who recently lost her husband, John. His ashes went to create a canvas with a picturesque beach. The customer liked the result so much that Val created three more such paintings, and then even opened her own unique business, Ashes for Art.

Craving for creativity periodically wakes up in every person. People began to engage in fine arts in prehistoric times, they painted deities, animals, plants. The masterpieces of the most talented masters of the past, which we can enjoy daily, have survived to our days. Some people are best able to portray the play of water and light, others are given details, others just create a mood with their work. But some amazing creators, in an effort to express themselves and distinguish themselves from others, find their own technique of writing paintings and this is not necessarily a brush.

1. Tim Patch - writes pictures by his own genitals. The extravagant artist calls himself Pricasso - there is no doubt that the great Picasso, a lover of shocking experiments, would approve of such a pseudonym. The background of the picture Pricasso makes out with the help of his, sorry, backside, since using a penis for this purpose would take much more time. The artist’s works always pop up at various sex exhibitions, and he always gladly demonstrates to the public the process of writing the canvas.

2. Millie Brown - draws with vomit. According to some, this is real art (the question, of course, is very controversial). The woman learned to regurgitate - to push out the contents of the stomach with the help of muscles. She drinks colored milk, and then, contracting her muscles, spills it onto a canvas or clothes. And it is worth noting that such abstractionism is estimated at several thousand dollars for the "picture".

3. Hong Yu - An artist from China paints a picture with a basketball. Her dream is to create a portrait of her basketball idol Yao Ming using an original technique (dipping a ball into paint and leaving them prints on canvas) became a reality. The image of the famous player is now immortalized for many years, and Hong Yu herself has received universal recognition.

4. Vinicius Quesada - Brazilian painter. His "trick" is to draw with human blood. A series of paintings written in blood and urine, entitled “The Blues Written in Blood,” came out from under the brush of an amateur to shock the audience. It is interesting that for paintings the artist uses exclusively his own blood supply, he allocates it 450 ml every two months. The works of the Brazilian are apocalyptic in nature, you can see only three colors on them: red, yellow, blue.

5. A group of artists from Ukraine - is engaged in the creation of paintings under water. They are engaged in creative work at the bottom of the Black Sea, using scuba gear. After about 40 minutes of being under water, they manage to put paints on the canvas, which creative artists pre-cover with a waterproof composition. Underwater paintings are not much different from "land", but the idea itself has the right to life.

6. Kira Ain Varzedzhi - draws pictures with his bare chest (the size of which is 38DD). It goes without saying that the technique is not so original compared to the tool itself. An American artist dips a bust directly into a container of paint, and then presses it against the canvas - the process is repeated until the "work" on the painting is completed. The author herself is confident that the popularity of her works is due to the special style of mixing colors.

7. Ani Kay - An artist who paints pictures with his tongue. This is really a sacrifice in the name of art! Of course, the author uses his own language for writing paintings, so he is constantly haunted by headaches, nausea and cramping. Before stopping at such an unusual tool for work, Ani first tried to paint pictures with his nose, but, as it turned out, such originals were already found. The artist’s pride is a 2.5m wide painting written in language, which is a copy of The Last Supper by the great Leonardo.

8. Chris Truman - draws with dead insects, or rather ants. He needed 200,000 of these insects for the painting Portrait with a Gun. The picture turned out in brown tones, it depicts the artist’s younger brother with a weapon in his hands. According to the artist, his work is riddled with love, I wonder how this relates to the destruction of unfortunate insects? Perhaps it was "death in the name of art."

9. Xiang Chen - When writing his dens, he uses the ancient method of holding long, almost meter, brushes for centuries! A metal end of the instrument is inserted under the eyelid and fixed there. The author discovered unusual abilities at the age of 16, when he returned from a construction site and found that his eyes were full of sand and dust, but the teenager himself did not feel pain or discomfort.

10. Val Thompson - draws with ashes remaining after the cremation of a person. Ashes are mixed with paints and the composition is applied to the canvas - a very unusual texture is obtained. The original technique allowed the artist to make a career.

) in her expressive sweeping works she was able to maintain the transparency of the fog, the ease of sail, the smooth rocking of the ship on the waves.

Her paintings are striking in their depth, volume, saturation, and the texture is such that it is impossible to take their eyes off them.

Warm simplicity Valentina Gubareva

Primitive artist from Minsk Valentin Gubarev not chasing fame and just doing what he loves. His work is insanely popular abroad, but almost unfamiliar to his compatriots. In the mid-90s, the French fell in love with his everyday sketches and signed a contract with the artist for 16 years. The paintings, which, it would seem, should be understood only by us, the bearers of the “modest charm of undeveloped socialism”, liked the European public, and exhibitions began in Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain and other countries.

Sensual realism of Sergey Marshennikov

Sergey Marshennikov is 41 years old. He lives in St. Petersburg and creates in the best traditions of the classical Russian school of realistic portraiture. The heroines of his paintings are gentle and defenseless women in their half-nakedness. Many of the most famous paintings depict the muse and wife of the artist - Natalia.

The shortsighted world of Philip Barlow

In the modern era of high-resolution images and the rise of hyperrealism, the work of Philip Barlow immediately attracted attention. However, a certain effort is required from the viewer in order to force himself to look at the blurry silhouettes and bright spots on the canvases of the author. This is probably how people with myopia see the world without glasses and contact lenses.

Solar Bunnies Laurent Parsellier

Laurent Parcelier painting is a wonderful world in which there is neither sadness nor gloom. With him you will not find gloomy and rainy pictures. On his canvases there is a lot of light, air and bright colors that the artist applies with characteristic recognizable strokes. This creates the feeling that the paintings are woven from a thousand sunbeams.

City dynamics in the works of Jeremy Mann

Oil on wooden panels, the American artist Jeremy Mann (Jeremy Mann) writes dynamic portraits of the modern metropolis. “Abstract forms, lines, the contrast of light and dark spots - all create a picture that evokes the feeling that a person experiences in the crowd and bustle of the city, but can also express the calm that is gained when contemplating quiet beauty,” the artist says.

The Illusory World of Neil Simon

In the paintings of British artist Neil Simone (Neil Simone), everything is not as it seems at first glance. “For me, the world around is a series of fragile and ever-changing shapes, shadows and borders,” says Simon. And in his paintings everything is really illusory and interconnected. Borders are washed away, and plots flow into each other.

Joseph Lorasso's Love Drama

The Italian-born contemporary American artist Joseph Lorusso transfers to the canvas the plots he spied in everyday life of ordinary people. Hugs and kisses, passionate impulses, moments of tenderness and desire fill his emotional paintings.

Village life of Dmitry Lyovin

Dmitry Lyovin is a recognized master of the Russian landscape, who has established himself as a talented representative of the Russian realistic school. The most important source of his art is his attachment to nature, which he dearly and passionately loves and part of which he feels.

The bright east of Valery Blokhin

In the East, everything is different: other colors, different air, other life values and reality more fabulous than fiction - as a contemporary artist believes
